The Dean is famous for its summer run Steelhead and Salmon that migrate
into the river each year from June to October. The Dean River Steelhead are some of the
strongest of all Steelhead stock. This, coupled with the fact that we are fishing very
close to salt water, insures that you will experience tackle-busters!
These fish are bright with all their strength and stamina. The Dean is
regulated single, barbless hooks, no bait. We fish for salmon with both fly and spinning
gear, but use mostly fly gear for Steelhead. Favorite flies are: Purple Peril, General
Practitioner, Black Wooly Bugger, Purple-Orange-Red Popsicle, Egg-sucking Leech and
Squamish Poacher for wet flies. As dry flies, we use Wally's Walker, Steelhead Bee--- all
of these on number 1-0 hillis. You will need a 9-weight rod and a reel capable of holding
200 yards of 320 backing. Steelhead will weigh up to 25 pounds, Coho up to 25 pounds, and
King Salmon up to 50 pounds.
We have a comfortable lodge nestled in a spectacular setting with the
Gratham Waterfall rushing to drop 1000 feet in your backyard to serenade you to sleep each
night.
You may have the option of a three, six, or seven day stay here.
We have many years experience fishing this area, and know prime times
for each water and fish species. The possibilities are endless; you can fish a different
lake or river each day for a season and still not have tried them all!
Species available are: Rainbow up to five pounds, Steelhead up to
25 pounds, five species of Pacific Salmon up to 50 pounds, Cutthroat, Dollies, Kokanee and
Whitefish up to five pounds.
