John and Mary Lou Blackwell homesteaded at Moose Lake in 1969. At that
time there were few inhabitants in the area.
The obstacles seemed insurmountable at times, but they managed to
educate sons Justin and Sid (ages five and seven in 1969), cleared and cultivated land for
hay for their horses, cleared and graded an airstrip, and constructed log cabins and a
lodge from timber on the property.
From the beginning, they guided fishermen and hunters from their
homestead. This venture gradually developed into a fly-out lodge complete with float
planes, boats on many lakes, outpost camps, with guiding on primary rivers.
Mary Lou's ability to manage a lodge where hospitality and good food are
first and foremost, combined with John's and Justin's experience flying and guiding in
this beautiful area, are your assurance of a memorable vacation.
