" You can hardly find us on the map. But if you look carefully a little west
of Yellowstone and a little north of Idaho Falls, you'll see a place called Monida, Montana.
Its where life begins for a lot of folks - or at least where life comes together.
You take the Centennial Valley where our spread is, surround it with the Red Rock Lakes national wildlife refuge,
plant a few million firs and pines, stack up a buttress of granite against the Big Sky and you've got the beginnings
of Lakeview Ranch.
But then you add a few man-made things like a nice lodge, dining and recreation rooms, quiet guest rooms, an indoor
heated pool - and our own private chalet up on the mountain - and you begin to get a feel for the place.
Well, in case you're maybe thinking that Lakeview Ranch is a summer kind of place - it is. But its also a spring
and fall and winter kind of place, too.
And you know what'?
Every season at Lakeview Ranch is a surprise - sort of like opening up the next chapter of your favorite book.
Let's see now, about those "reasons" we were mentioning ..."
Keith Rush
SPRING
Spring comes on whenever the snow decides to melt, and that's usually somewhere around April. We re just as excited
about spring up here as the animals and birds are. This is moose country. elk country, antelope country, you understand
... and you should see the way they come staking out their browsing grounds, nibblin' at the new shoots and the
tender grass after a long winter. But don't be at all surprised to see a few red fox, some smartpants badgers,
and half the squirrels in Montana come wheelin' up to your cabin door. And if you happen to be a bird watcher,
you'll see'em by the tens of thousands right here in the refuge - especially the fantastic trumpeter swan, and
the greater sandhill cranes that nest in our meadows and marshes. Now that's a show. But our Centennial Valley
is just the beginning. Hitching on your backpack, you can follow the spring flower show right on into the highlands, camping
beside a rushing trout stream for some early spring fishing, moving into fresh country, fresh adventure - your
color camera clicking it all in. But for a little diversion, there's nothing in the world like some early spring
fishing, some color slide photography of the very first flowers on the valley's floor, or an early morning hike
over hardpacked snow.
SUMMER
Summertime in Montana. The flowers that started peeking their heads out of the melting snow are on stage for 'heir
big show now - shooting stars, buttercups, lupine, stick geranium, loco paint - in a myriad of color wilderness.
But that's just the carpet. Hitch on your backpack or hop into our jeep and we'll show you the darndest timber
country, the most spectacular high country you ever laid your eyes on. If you want, we'll do a "drop-camp,"
setting you up a camp that will be all ready for you when you hike in. You see, we're really out of the way here.
A few trails, a few roads. Most of them empty
Summer's the greatest in Beaverhead National Forest where lakes, clear-water streams, little brooks offer up some
of the finest fishing you've ever seen - rainbows, brook, cutthroat, and the rare Montana version of the Arctic
greyling. We'll come along if you want, showing you little secrets about lures, flycasting, special hiding places.
We'll even hitch a couple of horses for your fishing trip, taking you miles into the most gorgeous fishing country
you've ever seen.
Or if you're a young adult (aged 12-18), it's Big Sky Discovery time - our exciting adventure oriented outdoor
program under the direction of our Brigham Young University youth recreation leaders. Summertime. A great time
for you - for your family - at Lakeview Ranch!
FALL
Quiet time, Indian summer. Lazy, warm days. Most of the guests have gone on home now, so the place is mostly just
yours. Yours, that is, if you don't mind sharing it with a skyful of some 50,000 ducks and geese that think Red
Rock Lakes is a pretty good stopping place before their southward migration in August and September.
Or if you've chosen October, you can say hello to a couple of thousand whistling swans - known locally as "cowboy
geese" because they sound for all the world like distant cowpunchers gatherin' up their cattle.
Hunting is our really big thing in the fall. You see, Centennial Valley and the surrounding forests provide incredible
browsing lands and migrating routes for big game - moose, antelope, mountain goat, big horn sheep, bear, deer and
elk. Folks from all over the country - that is, the few who know about Lakeview Ranch - come here year after year
for what they call the finest hunting anyplace.
But realty, the biggest thing in autumn is just being here.
Living life at your own speed. Eating our home-cooked chow. Makin' friends. Living.
WINTER
The white carpet comes up six, eight, ten feet here in the valley - sort of closes us in for the winter except
for the one road. So we toss a few more pine logs on the fire and let 'er storm. But next morning ... Clear sky!
Big Sky! Cold and crisp! We're off an the snowmobiles, high onto our very own ski mountain, then onto our choice
of three hand-tailored mile-long slopes The skiing is fantastic. And it's all ours!
For mom and dad, they can laze out the day on top of the mountain in our chalet looking out across Centennial Valley.
Or we can all go snowmobiling, zipping into a glistening world of white-laden beauty you won't believe.
Or strap on our cross-country skis and take a jaunt across the easy sweep of the valley, in among the pines and
firs, up and down the eary, gathering slopes of Beaverhead National Forest.
Say, didn't someone mention a heated indoor pool? We did indeed! Give us a dip.
As we were saying, winter is fantastic at Lakeview.

Back Country Tent Camps
This is what back country tent camps are - deep-rooted in western tradition. Most elk hunters, when they dream
of an elk camp in the Rockies, think of a remote tent camp located in the heart of elk, deer, and bear country.
Add a sturdy mountain pony to the picture and you have described one of our back country hunting camps. Our camps
have been selected with first and foremost quality hunting in mind. Back country camps are located away from roaded
or heavily hunted areas. Most of the areas we hunt are primitive Or wilderness areas, no motorized vehicles allowed.
This is true western elk hunting tradition. If you are ready to sample western tradition - let's go hunting. Let
me know days, dates, how many in your party, type of camp. In the past, 50% of our drop camp hunters should have
gone on a fully guided hunt, as if you are not experienced in western elk hunting, you will probably have a poor
hunt. It is your hunt, so plan well. Our insurance company requires a signed outfitter/ Client Contract and Hold
Harmless clause from each client.
